With a childhood filled with painting and creative pursuits it was little wonder she followed this passion with studies in Graphic Design. As mentioned late last week I saw an amazing photo of this print from the Marni 2011 Fall Collection on The Sartorialist website and promised I would take a more detailed look at the collection on my blog. (Apologies also if the posts have been very fashion orientated but I have a particular week spot for this and given the recent fashion weeks in NY, Milan and London I couldn't resist). The Marni collection was a showcase of prints in an elegant way - more subtle overall and maybe even more wearable than some of the other fashion prints that I have posted about recently. I’m not sure about you, but where I live in Australia the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is quite big news over here as we are still a Commonwealth country. When they announced their engagement Kate wore a dress by UK designer Danielle Issa Helayel (which happened to sell out on Net-a-porter). So where am I going with this? Are you thinking you’ve received this post by mistake? In a round about way I’m working my way towards an introduction to the designer for today’s Fashion Friday post which happens to be Daniella Issa Helayel and her Fall 2011 collection entitled Celebration. Prints and patterns were out in force in this collection, many of which were revivals of her past favourites from the last ten years. What I love personally about this collection is that it’s aesthetic appeals to my own design sensibility and wardrobe.

Holly Fulton’s collection for Fall 2011 was inspired by Coco Chanel visiting Scotland with her beau (think black and yellow tweeds) alongside bold graphic prints with a pop sensibility. Images of the Empire State Building and bold lips are stand out prints in this collection. Just a little of bit of fun infused into this collection of prints and patterns from a designer who’s style is constantly evolving. I can’t wait to see what she does next! There have been some designers at NY Fashion Week and London Fashion Week who have shown a great selection of patterns and prints in their collections which I would like to showcase on this blog so I hope to be able to get around to mentioning the ones I want to over the next few days. One of these designers is Mary Katrantzou and her Fall 2011 Collection as seen on the style.com website. Her collection was filled with luxurious hyper vivid prints inspired by objects of beauty such as Fabergé eggs, Meissen porcelain and Ming vases. For me this collection is brimming with a kaleidoscope of beautiful prints and patterns.

Fun Fun Fun! That’s what came to mind when I saw images of Louise Gray’s Fall 2011 Collection at London Fashion Week. This collection entitled “Up Your Look” is an explosion of colour, prints and patterns – all my favourite things in one! I also loved the accessories (particularly the patterned boots). Gray layered pixelated and enlarged plaid patterns on mohair and overprinted bright checkered patterns onto classic wool tartans. As London Fashion Week continues on I thought today we would take a look at the Fall 2011 collection from Jonathon Saunders. This was another of the collections that had a strong emphasis on colour and also on prints patterns! The label drew inspiration from photographer Paul Outerbridge and his graphic juxtapositions. This collection was heavy on the geometric patterns and also on the flora and fauna inspired patterns. While mainly a womenswear show, Jonathon also showed a few pieces from his menswear collection. Sass and Bide - Fall Collection 2011

One of my favourite Australia Design labels Sass and Bide - designed by Sarah-Jane Clare and Heidi Middleton have just shown their latest collection at London Fashion week. (I have previously featured their work in this Fashion Friday post here). This Fall 2011 collection is filled with optimistic colours like coral, magenta and fuchsia and it also has a strong emphasis on ikat and tie dye inspired patterns. Embracing different cultures, textures and mediums this collection embodies the concept of a female urban warrior ... personally I think it is their best collection so far. Fashion Friday - Suno Fall 2011 Collection

As New York Fashion Week draws to a close I have decided to take a look at the Fall 2011 collection presented by Suno New York. In this past week not a lot of the designers have embraced prints and patterns for Fall 2011 but Suno was one of the collections that caught my eye because of their wonderful use of prints and patterns. Suno was formed in 2008 by Max Osterweis after a decade of collecting textiles from Kenya. The collections for Suno are designed in New York and the majority of each collection (about 70%) is produced in Kenya using local tailors. The Fall 2011 collection was inspired by wallpaper prints and geometric motifs with a sense of elegance. The collection also embraces a sophisticated earthy palette with bright colours and a wonderful mix of prints. You can view the full collection online at style.com.

Messagemark donates thirty percent of online sales to the Cure4C Foundation . All greeting cards are printed on 100% post consumer/recycled paper stock and printed with ECO EA toner, paper offcuts are used for packaging and any seconds cards are donated to local schools for craft classes.
