This Fashion Friday post focuses on the Spring/Summer 2011 collection from Nigerian born,
resident and fashion designer Duro Olowu. Duro began his career as a lawyer before becoming a self taught fashion designer. He launched his first collection in 2004 featuring luxurious fabrics, vibrant prints and his signature empire waist “Duro dress” which was named the dress of the year by both British Vogue and American Vogue in 2005. In that same year Duro also won the “Designer of the Year” award at the British Fashion Awards. UK
Duro is known for his vivid prints, bright colours, draping techniques, expert cuts and fearless combinations of patterns and fabrics. He combines African prints with European tailoring and it was this unique combination that caught my eye. Here is a look at some of the gorgeous prints from his Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Inspired by vintage silk geometric, floral and quirky prints in deep, bright colours Duro has created a stylish look for the modern woman.
